Apple-scab, Needle-cast, Anthracnose and cankers that show up on our tree's leaves, twigs and fruits in mid summer to late fall are caused by fungi that cause the infection in early spring. Depending on the disease the infection occurs even before your tree sprouts its leaves!
The good news is that there is a lot that can be done to prevent the infection from occurring in the first place.
Prevention includes disposing of last years leaves, pruning and destroying infected twigs and in some cases treating your trees when they are most vulnerable to infection this spring.
Remember, once you see the symptoms, it is too late! Treatment and prevention must be done early in the year, long before symptoms show up.
